Competition: Tyr’s Gambit

When Tyr placed his hand in the jaws of the wolf, he knew the cost. He did it anyway.

That courage—to create something bold, to risk, to offer your best—is what we celebrate here. Whether you work in fiber, forge, brush, or word, bring your craft to honor the tale of god and wolf.

Patronne Murienne l’aloiere invites you to take up the challenge: three competitions, three ways to answer the call. Will you take the gambit?

“Binding the Wolf”

Fiber & Cordage Arts

No ordinary chain could hold Fenrir. Create a decorative cord, braid, band, or binding worthy of restraining a god-beast.

Eligible Entries: Tablet-woven bands, lucet cord, fingerloop braids, kumihimo, sprang, nålbinding cords, rope-making, or other period-appropriate fiber and cordage techniques.

“The Jaws of Fenrir”

Open Medium, Wolf Theme

Even the gods trembled before the great wolf. Create an item in any medium that captures his fearsome spirit.

Eligible Entries: Any medium—embroidery, woodcarving, metalwork, leatherwork, painting, ceramics, jewelry, textile arts, illumination, and more. The entry must prominently feature wolf imagery.

“Howl at the Moon”

Static Bardic

The tale of Fenrir and Tyr has echoed through ages. Add your voice to the saga with an original written work.

Eligible Entries: Original poetry, song lyrics (with notation if able), short prose, saga-style narratives, riddles, or kennings. Works should relate to Fenrir, Tyr, the binding, wolves in Norse culture, or related themes.

Presentation: Entries should be submitted in written form, legibly presented for voters to read. Calligraphed or illuminated presentations are welcome but not required.

How to Enter

Bring your entry to the A&S display area on Saturday morning. Check with the A&S coordinator for exact times.

Enter one, two, or all three competitions—the choice is yours.

Include a brief note (3″x5″ card or similar) with your entry describing your materials, techniques, and any historical inspiration. This helps voters appreciate your work.

All three competitions are populace choice. Winners will be announced at Evening Court.
